Meme, schmeme. We need proven results. Otherwise how can I tell a business whether lifestreams are legitimate concerns or hype?
For the record, it does not make sense for a large business to use a lifestream portal — at least on a social network’s site. Lifestreams as they exist on Jaiku, Squidoo, and Tumblr are primarily consumer or individual content creator applications. It makes more sense to create streams of feeds and content on the corporate site. In this vein, we created a speakerstream for New Media Nouveaux (programming by Viget Labs).
Creating a unique corporate lifestream on the “home server” is important because it protects the company’s branding. It also ensures SEO for the entire URL. And it does this while providing the singular portal into multiple social media initiatives.
Enter Geoff Livingston, social media guinea pig. After uploading my feeds into Tumblr, I know which Lifestream technology is for me. And that’s Squidoo.
Why? Very simply, it allows me to execute simple eCommerce. With a book due out in October, I’d like folks to be able to order a copy directly from my lifestream.
Of the three free social network “lifestream” portal techs I’ve reviewed, Squidoo is the easiest for a small business like mine to use and promote various initiatives, including book sales.
Jaiku was very clean, and could also replace Twitter. But it lacked the eCommerce of Squidoo. Tumblr seemed unfriendly to me, as I was not thrilled with the interface. Again, this is from a Luddite’s perspective.
It’s my intent to use the Squidoo URL in my comments signatures and see what happens. It may have some impact or no impact. People may just hate it. Or they become fans of all my content.
My one concern is impact on corporate branding, but right now I have to promote Now Is Gone anyway. And Livingston Communications is about to undergo a facelift on branding, so… this may be a good time to do it. Buzz Bin and Now Is Gone feeds are there. So we’ll see. Results in one month’s time!

For some reason I like the feel of your Tumble stream better. It convinced me to start one of my own. For the purposes that you expressed, as far as eCommerce, Squidoo looks perfect and has a “business” feel to it.
Sometimes self promotion is all we have! I wouldn’t mind someone throwing links in comment signatures. Especially when they are active participants.
Yeah, it’s funny. If I had to do it without the book coming out, I’d use Jaiku and kill Twitter off (I can’t believe I said that).
I don’t know, I have a kneejerk reaction against Squidoo myself – I think Tumblr is elegant but you have made a very nice Squidoo page. Good luck!
Yippie! Thanks for giving Squidoo a try and we sure are glad to have you. :) Do you have your profile on SquidWho yet? http://www.squidwho.com

Thanks, Marshall. I agree, Jaiku is cleaner at least for me.
Kim, how come I got booted out of the business Lense? Tsk, tsk. Closed communities never survive. To say my profile is not a business lense is ridiculous.
