Chris & Cynthia: Thanks for stopping by!

Troy - thanks for your comment. I agree, in the end not only is about community interaction and building a good and meaningful brand; but about ROI and companies being able to turn a profit with social media. It shouldn't be the driving factor for engaging, but should definitely be considered.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement:

"Finding the correct older audience gives you not only readers who care about a topic (as opposed to teenagers who tend to be fickle), but ones who have solid backgrounds, knowledge and expertise."

But I think you left out a very key factor in the need - no, the absolute necessity to target this audience - and that is their buying power. This so-called solid, knowledgeable, and expert demographic has the money to spend that fickle teens won't have for another 10-15 years or more, An by that time, the paradigms which are just now emerging in the minds of the "visionaries" will be long-outdated. nd the cycle repeats.

The thing that remains constant however, is the need for revenue - and that comes from those with money, thus the necessity of reaching the "older audience",

Great post - enjoyed it - thanks!
